
Terri Stevens is a fashion designer owning and designing for her labels Michael Joseph and funkinbeautiful. Michael Joseph is sophisticated funky and chic, and funkinbeautiful has an urban raw funky edge. This Chicago native was featured on Season 5 of Project Runway – she was one of the top 6 contestants on the show. As one of the popular designers on the show, Terri’s funky and urban chic style amazed the judges and viewers each week.
Terri graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelors of Art in Fashion Design and Merchandise. Always a leader, she founded EXES, a fashion club for student and local designers to showcase their work and network with retailers and talent agencies. While in school, she caught the eye of another designer, Barbara Bates of Bates Design, who gave Terri an offer she could not refuse as assistant designer at her firm. It was at Bates Design where her talent for freehand cutting and eyeball sewing was appreciated. She started her career in visual merchandising for many top retailers including Nordstroms, Levi’s and most recently Victoria’s Secret, where she would design store concepts and create big brand ideas. Terri went on to live and work in Paris, working for designer Xuly Bet, and the famous Colette where she learned the business of design and European techniques.
She has an eclectic and funky style that compliments her own unique personality. Music plays a major influence on her fashion. "I am rock and roll,” she had said of her style, “…if you'd throw Aerosmith, Lauryn Hill, Michael Jackson, and Madonna all together that’s my style."
Terri is now a featured personality on many red carpet events and television shows. Attending The A-list Awards, The Oscars, MTV Movie Award, and BET’s Rip the Runway. She currently writes for her own online magazine blog www.terristevensfunkdat.blogspot.com where hundreds of her fans check daily to find out what’s happening in the fashion industry, the latest and hottest looks and red carpet ‘hits’ and ‘misses.’
Terri currently resides in downtown Columbus, OH with her husband and two cats and maintains a residence in Chicago’s emerging South Loop District. She is featured in several boutiques across the nation and growing. Rowe in the hip Short North area of Columbus, Bates Design and Toss are located in the expanding South Loop, and The Silver Room in the ever popular Bucktown/Wicker Park area, and GG Couture, a favorite shopping destination for The Housewives of Orange County, in California.
